Jeremiah 29:11
About being a mom, a born again Christian mom…
I was 23 and had been married for two years when our first son was born. I was terrified of not being financially ready. (This is sin, btw-to be terrified.) We were idealists, worked extremely hard to get financially ready and yet our son came into our lives on his own schedule!
Nevertheless, I knew what kind of mom I wanted to me…
I’m still trying to be THAT mom…
I’m deeply awed, with a healthy dose of fear-of-the-Lord when Jesus addressed family and mothers in particular in Matthew 12.
“While he [Jesus] yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said,
Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Matthew 12:46-50
“Who is my mother, and who are my brethren?
Whosoever shall do the will of my Father in heaven.”
A prayer for all mothers…
Father God,
Thank you for the honor of motherhood with its mountain-peak highs and depths-of-despair lows- I thank you because you promise to be with us through it all.
You promise to complete the good work in us as we confess and repent from our sin and renew our minds with the truth of your Word.
Father, thank you for calling some to yourself and for giving us strength to follow and obey you. That is what the next generation needs to see and be taught. May we not shirk away from the high calling and may we not fear men (or women).
May we boldly love with truth and when repentance is demonstrated may we lavish grace.
Lord, you are soooooo good to your children, the mothers and brethren of Christ!
Thank you God!
May you be glorified in the lives of mothers this day and every day so that our children are blessed, rising up and calling us mothers blessed!
Your will be done!
In Jesus’s Name.
Amen
